XXDEEP SURFACE…….............….1 bk Better than 23-Karat pure. This is the finest domestic Gold Leaf available, being the deepest in color and will not tarnish. It is used for picture frames, raised letters, flat surface gilding and decorating. A book contains 25 sheets of pure gold interleaved with a specially prepared paper that allows easy removal from the book. Each sheet measures 33/8” x 33/8” and a book will cover approximately 11/2 to 15/8 sq.ft. May be applied with the Slow Clear Adhesive (SA-43), Fast Clear Adhesive (SA-40), or an alcohol and water solution that slightly softens the surface of the gesso or bole. The latter type is used when it is desired to burnish the Gold Leaf to a brilliant finish with an agate burnisher. |

SYNTHETIC RED BOLE SEALER…………….............………..4 oz Finest ground coat for picture frame repair. Its use is described in detail in the “HANDBOOK OF OIL PAINTING CONSERVATION”. It is the quickest and most profitable sealer available to the restorer of old picture frames. Small indentations may require up to three coats, but the average is usually only 1 coat. It may be polished with French polishing technique until it has a mirror-like finish. It eliminates the use of gesso and bole. Gilding wax may be applied over its hard smooth surface in several layers and then burnished to a brilliant gold tone with a polished agate burnisher. One teacher of frame repair uses this method exclusively. |
