FAST SYNTHETIC ADHESIVE...….8 oz

This is a fast setting adhesive (1 – 10 minutes) that is a favorite of beginners to the fascinating field of gilding with Imitation Gold Leaf.  It is best applied to a surface that is well sealed, however sealing is usually not necessary if it is being used to apply Imitation Gold Leaf over an old gilded frame.  It should be applied with a soft sable brush in a thin coat.  As soon as it appears dry it is ready for leafing.

This is a fast drying yellow colored synthetic adhesive for those gilders whose jobs demand its use.  It is ready for gilding with either genuine Gold Leaf or Imitation Gold Leaf when a singing tone is heard upon touching its surface and pulling the finger away with a snap.  The side of the finger should only be used, as the palm side of the finger is too oily to test it.

This adhesive is the most popular one used in restoring antique picture frames.  It should be thinly applied over a sealed surface (GS-6 Red Lac or other sealer) and allowed to dry to an almost imperceptible tack before applying the Imitation Gold Leaf or 23-Karat Gold Leaf.

An extremely fine adhesive from Germany similar to the ones used by the old masters in applying gold leaf to their Icons and Religious paintings.  It can also be used for applying intricate Gold Leaf or Imitation Gold Leaf on paintings and picture frames.  For fine designs this adhesive should be applied with a small fine sable brush in the desired pattern and allowed to dry for a half-hour or more.  As it will retain its tack for several hours it allows a wide range of working time.  At least 24 hours should be allowed before brushing the surplus leaf away using a 1" dry sable brush.

SLOW OIL “OLD TIMERS”

FRENCH GILDING

We make this fine old-world slow adhesive to the specifications on an 18^th century French formula.  It was available ready-made in France up to 1910.  It was replaced by cheaper formulae, which did not approach this adhesive in quality.  As labor prices constantly increased, the demand for quality products is increasing again.  Expert gilders inform us that it is best applied 12 to 24 hours before the gilding is to commence.
