We advocate the deacidifying of paper art preceding various methods of cleaning and bleaching so that whatever their chemical makeup and the process used (whether reducing or oxidizing) they will not be influenced by an erratic pH content of the paper art.  Strong alkaline solutions that are often proposed as deacidifying agents usually have a pH factor between 9 and 12.  In contrast an aqueous solution of pH Plus has a constant pH factor of 8.4 because of its buffering characteristics.  The formula and its usage are detailed in our “HANDBOOK OF PAPER ART CONSERVATION”.
